This quick Windows 7 tip comes in handy when you have lost or forget a Windows 7 password for the primary account. Note that you must have access to another account on that computer. In order to perform this tip, you will require access to the computer and be able to run a command prompt.

To Change Windows 7 Password

1. Open a RUN box, and type ‘cmd’(without quotes)

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories ->Command Prompt.

2. Press Enter

3. Type ‘net user’. This will show a list of all the accounts on this computer.

This helps determine the correct user name of the account, which password you wish to change.

3. Type ‘net user (username) *’. It then prompts you to enter a new password.
(the password you enter will not be displayed)

4. Confirm the new password
Type the password again, and click enter.

5. Type ‘exit’ to close command prompt.

The password is now changed. You may now logon to this account with the new password.

Occasionally there may be need to access a computer without knowing the login password. There are some very useful tools to help accomplish this. The process is quick and easy, and anybody can do this. You only need is a CD and a little knowledge about booting and all. Few days back we posted something similar on how to change Windows 7 password without knowing it .

Steps to Access a Windows XP Computer Without Changing The Password:

1. Access the machine in question's CD or DVD drive.
2. Download DreamPackPL
3. Unzip the downloaded dpl.zip to access the dpl.ISO file.
4. Use any burning program that can burn ISO images.
5. After you have the disk, boot from the CD or DVD drive. You will see Windows 2000 Setup and it will load some files.
6. Press “R” to install DreamPackPL.
7. Press “C” to install DreamPackPL by using the recovery console.
8. Select the Windows installation that is currently on the computer (Normally is “1″ if you only have one Windows installed)
9. Backup your original sfcfiles.dll by typing:
“ren C:\Windows\System32\sfcfiles.dll sfcfiles.lld” (without quotes)
10. Copy the hacked file from CD to system32 folder. Type:
“copy D:\i386\pinball.ex_ C:\Windows\System32\sfcfiles.dll” (without quotes and assuming your CD drive is D:)

*(These codes will also be present in the window where you have to write these codes.)

11.Type “exit”, take out disk and reboot.

12. In the password field, type “dreamon” (without quotes) and DreamPack menu will appear.

13. Click the top graphic on the DreamPack menu and you will get a menu popup.

14. Go to commands and enable the options and enable the god command.

15. Type “god” in the password field to access Windows.

* You can also go to Passwords and select “Logon with wrong password and hash”. This option allows you to login with ANY password.

The best practice you can do to prevent a lost windows password is to create a windows password reset disk. Microsoft has created a 'Forgotten Password Wizard' which is a utility built into windows. The forgotten password wizard lets you create a password reset disk that you can use to recover your user account and personalized computer settings in the event you forget your windows password.

The steps to complete the password reset disk differ depending on whether your computer is a member of a domain, if it is part of a workgroup, or is a stand-alone computer).

If Your Computer is part of a Domain

1. Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to open the Windows Security dialog box. Click Change Password.
2. Click 'Backup' to open the Forgotten Password Wizard. Click Next, and then follow the instructions.

My Computer is not on a Domain

These steps differ depending on the type of user account you have.

If you have a computer administrator account:
1. Open User Accounts in Control Panel. Click on your account name.
Under Related Tasks, click 'Prevent a forgotten password'.
In the Forgotten Password Wizard, follow the instructions.

If you Have a Limited Account

1. Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Under Related Tasks, click Prevent a forgotten password.
In the Forgotten Password Wizard, follow the instructions.

To protect user accounts in the event that the user forgets their password, all local users should make a windows password reset disk and store it in a safe place. Forgot your Windows XP, Vista, 7 password?

If you have ever forgotten your Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 password, then you are in a mess. Well, a few years ago, that may have been true, but no longer. Thankfully, there are ways to recover your Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 administrator password without reformatting, or repairing your Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 installation!

If you were a precautious computer user, you would have created a Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 password reset floppy disk as instructed in the Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 getting started guides and many tutorials. Realistically, you would have made one if you could, but now it's too late.

The next option - Load your Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 recovery cd; boot the computer from that cd. Upon accessing the Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 installation menu, you are presented with the option to repair the Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 installation.

This effectively replaces your windows directory and reloads your original windows files. You have the option to setup windows again, and put in a NEW password. It does not allow you to recover an existing password.

Of course using the repair option runs the risk of losing your 'my documents' folder and other windows related settings, however it does not format the hard drive. This is the safest way to recover your password, but obviously not the best.

Recently, computer enthusiasts developed alternate methods for recovering Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 passwords. It is referred to as a Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 password reset disk

The Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 password recovery disk is a linux based utility that is shockingly offered for free! To use the Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 password reset disk, you simply boot the computer with the cd (you may have to access your computer BIOS and change the boot sequence) to allow you to boot from the cdrom drive first in your bot sequence. Once you have booted from the cd, you will be prompted with several options and accompanying questions. Most of the questions are straightforward and have been designed to allow the default answers to be used. Ultimately, you will be asked to reset the administrator’s account.

Be warned – you do run a slight risk of losing some data, especially encrypted files and passwords in other programs – that are linked to your administrator’s account. If you don’t use encrypted files, no need to worry.

The next time you boot the pc, your administrator password will be blank, you simply hit the enter key to regain access. Don’t forget to change your password, and make a reset disk this time!
